Athlete is not how I would have described myself as a kid, though I did take dance classes, play 8th grade basketball and served on my drill team 3 years in high school. But as an adult, I’ve learned that word can have a different meaning. I didn’t have to be fast, I didn’t have to be the best. I just had to be ACTIVE.
My running career started in earnest (after many stops and starts) with Power in Motion in spring 2008. They helped me finish my first 5k, and I’ve done several of those, 10ks and 2 half marathons since. I plan to run a third half in 2016 and a full in 2017.
I’ve kept up my dancing too: I was a certified Zumba instructor for a year, and have been a member of the Junior League of Houston’s Charity Ball cast for 3 years. I also enjoy weight lifting, cycling and golf. Oh yeah, and lounging by the pool 🙂
I’ve recently joined Beautycounter, a company dedicated to getting safer beauty and personal care products into the hands of everyone. Stay tuned for more on this way to be healthier!
This blog is an effort to keep myself accountable on a health and fitness front, and supporting others doing the same. I’d love to hear from you and even feature your story! Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
